GAMESCOM EVENT COVERAGE

I was the social media team lead for GameStop at Gamescom which is a trade fair for video games held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne.

My responsibilities included liaising with vendors, scheduling/planning our activity and meetings, shooting and editing videos and creation of other content for GameStop’s social media accounts. Timing was critical as everything had to happen at the right time and everyone needed to be in the right place when required.

Below you can find a variety of content I created during the show including photos, status updates, videos and interviews. This included content for some of the most anticipated titles of the year and involved interacting with large companies such as Microsoft, EA and Nintendo.

SOCIAL PRESENCE

Social updates were posted frequently throughout the day. These covered a variety of content from different events and locations to interviews. It was important to give a sense that our followers were on the journey with me and felt like they were part of the action.

INSTAGRAM STORIES

As you can see above we attended an event on the opening night. The purpose of our coverage here was to build hype, cover new game announcements and push our trade deal as a focus.

Following on from this you can see further event coverage below. I wanted to push the boundaries here so I decided to do a live 30 minute interview with a game developer showcasing their game. This was the first time we had done this on our social media and there was heavy interaction during the interview.

FORMAL INTERVIEWS

Interviews were a key component of my activity there and covered more than four of these. My responsibilities included scheduling these in advance of the trip, creating questions, registering with and meeting vendors and publishers on-site, conducting interviews, filming and post production tasks including editing and grading. Finally I would upload to social media. This was all done on location in Germany.

BRIEF SUMMARY

There were many different challenges here including both the technical side and time/project management side. Once I had finished the social activity and filming during the day I needed to edit and produce the formal content during the evening. This was a unique, difficult challenge but a very pleasing and rewarding one too.
